Expat Funeral Insurance, in one paragraph
The decision your family shouldn't have to make in grief. Caser's expat funeral policy lets you pre-arrange either a full Spanish funeral service (coffin, service, burial or cremation, headstone) OR international repatriation to your home country, your choice, prepaid. Includes legal guidance for the family afterwards, companion travel/accommodation reimbursement so family can attend, and uniquely: any unused portion of the insured sum is refunded to your beneficiaries (most policies pocket the difference). Premium rises progressively with age until 76, then only inflation adjustments - younger enrolment locks in lower lifetime cost.
Age eligibility and pricing
Open to all adult ages. Premium rises progressively with age until 76, after which only CPI/inflation adjustments apply. Younger applicants pay substantially less for the same end cover, so locking in cover earlier reduces lifetime cost.
Frequently asked questions
Why take funeral insurance specifically as an expat?
Two reasons. (1) Decision relief: your family doesn't have to make a wrenching choice in grief between repatriation (€5,000-€10,000+ realistic cost) and a Spanish funeral; you've already chosen. (2) Cost predictability: funeral costs in Spain typically run €3,000-€7,000; repatriation €5,000-€15,000+ depending on country. Insurance turns this into a small monthly premium.
Spanish funeral or repatriation - which should I choose?
Personal decision. Common pattern: long-term residents who consider Spain home pick a Spanish funeral. Pensioners spending part of the year in Spain often pick repatriation. Mixed-nationality families ask family preferences. The policy can be set up either way; you can also leave the choice to your beneficiaries.
Why does the premium rise with age?
Insurance pricing reflects life-expectancy actuarial tables. Caser's progressive pricing means younger applicants lock in lower lifetime premiums. After age 76, premiums are frozen at CPI-only adjustments - they never re-rate based on health or age beyond that.
What if the actual funeral costs less than my insured sum?
The difference is refunded to your beneficiaries. Unlike many funeral insurance products that pocket the difference, Caser refunds unused funds.
Does it cover children?
Yes - special mortuary services for pregnancy-related losses and deaths within 30 days post-birth (Spain only).
What about the legal aftermath?
Over-the-phone legal guidance is included covering civil, labour, administrative, criminal and trade-law matters - useful for the family navigating estate, probate and notifications in Spain.
Will my family in another country be helped to attend?
Yes - companion travel ticket and accommodation reimbursement (€90.15/day, max €601.01) is included so a family member can travel to be present.
Are there age limits to enrol?
Caser doesn't publicly state a maximum enrolment age - get a quote and we'll confirm. The pricing structure is designed to remain affordable into older age.
