We're a broker, not a single insurer. We compare several travel insurance options in Spain and recommend what's genuinely right for you.

Excess (deductible) on travel insurance

Higher excess (€100-200+)

Best for infrequent claims or budget-conscious travellers
  • Lower annual or per-trip premium
  • You pay the first €100-200 per claim
  • Good for minor issues you'd handle anyway
  • Covers major emergencies and medical bills

Lower excess (€0-50)

Best for peace of mind or frequent travellers
  • Higher premium cost
  • Minimal out-of-pocket per claim
  • Better for multiple smaller claims
  • Full protection from first euro

We'll help you find the right balance between premium cost and out-of-pocket expenses. Tell us your travel patterns for a personalized recommendation.

Frequently asked questions about travel insurance

Do I need travel insurance if I already have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC/GHIC)?

EHIC or GHIC can give you access to state healthcare in some countries, but they don't cover private treatment, repatriation to Spain or your home country, trip cancellation or baggage issues. Travel insurance is designed to cover these gaps.

Does travel insurance cover COVID-19?

Many modern travel policies include some COVID-19 cover, for example emergency medical treatment if you catch COVID abroad and sometimes trip cancellation if you test positive before departure. The details vary by insurer, so we'll highlight exactly what is and isn't covered.

Can I buy travel insurance after I've booked my trip?

Yes. In fact, most people buy travel insurance after booking. However, some benefits (especially cancellation cover) are strongest if you arrange your travel insurance soon after booking your flights and accommodation.

Is travel insurance mandatory for a Schengen visa?

For many non-EU nationals, yes. Schengen rules require travel medical insurance with at least €30,000 of medical cover and repatriation. We can arrange travel insurance that meets these requirements and provide the certificate you need for your visa application.

Does travel insurance cover flight cancellations and delays?

It can, but not in every situation. Policies usually cover cancellations due to specific events like illness, serious family emergencies or airline bankruptcy. Delays are covered above a certain number of hours with set compensation limits. Changing your mind about travelling is not usually covered unless you have a special CFAR option.

Is winter sports cover included automatically?

Usually not. Standard travel insurance often excludes skiing, snowboarding and some adventure activities. We can help you add a winter sports or adventure sports package if you plan to ski in the Pyrenees or travel to other resorts.

Does travel insurance cover pre-existing medical conditions?

It depends on the insurer and condition. You must declare any relevant medical history. Some insurers will exclude those conditions, others may cover them after a medical questionnaire or additional premium. We'll help you find the most suitable option.

Can I extend my travel insurance while I'm already abroad?

Some insurers allow extensions before the policy expires, but not all. It's always safer to plan your trip length realistically from the start. If you realise you need more time, contact us and we'll check what's possible under your policy.

Does travel insurance cover trips within Spain or only abroad?

Many policies focus on international trips, but some also cover trips within Spain if they meet certain conditions (distance from home, number of nights away, paid accommodation). We'll clarify this for your chosen plan so you know when you're covered.

How do I make a claim on my travel insurance?

In an emergency, call the insurer's 24/7 assistance line as soon as possible. Keep all documents: medical reports, receipts, police reports, airline letters and booking confirmations. When you return to Spain, we can guide you through the claim forms and documentation.

Does travel insurance cover lost or stolen baggage?

Yes, within the limits of the policy. You'll usually need to report the loss to the airline or local police and get a written report. There are often limits per item and exclusions for things like cash or unattended luggage.

Can I get travel insurance if I'm already travelling?

It's harder but not always impossible. Some insurers may offer cover starting from a future date while you're abroad; others don't. Tell us where you are, how long you've been travelling and your plans, and we'll see what's realistically available.
