"Most expats are surprised that dental care isn't covered by public health in Spain. Getting a separate dental plan is the best way to avoid expensive surprises at the dentist."

We specialize in helping expats in Spain find the right dental insurance – with clear advice in English and honest recommendations.
We understand expat reality in Spain
Public healthcare rarely covers dental work, and prices can vary a lot between clinics. We help you navigate this as an expat so you're not surprised by the system.
Several insurers, one point of contact
We're not tied to just one insurer. We compare offers from multiple companies and help you choose the one that fits your teeth, your family and your budget.
Plain English explanations
We translate insurance jargon into normal language. You'll understand exactly what check-ups, treatments and limits you're paying for.
Support when big treatments appear
If your dentist suddenly recommends a root canal, crown or implant, we help you check how your policy responds before you commit to the cost.
Family-friendly options
We can find plans that work for couples and families, including children's check-ups and orthodontic options where available.
Experience with expat health & dental cover
We've helped thousands of expats in Spain with health and dental insurance. We know which insurers work smoothly in practice – not just on paper.
Copays and network pricing
Network plan (cuadro médico)
- Free or very low-cost check-ups and cleanings
- Discounted rates for fillings, root canals, crowns
- Must use dentists within the insurer's network
- Lower monthly premium
Reimbursement plan
- Choose any dentist in Spain
- Pay upfront, then claim reimbursement
- Typically 70-90% of costs covered
- Higher monthly premium
Most expats choose network plans for better value. We'll explain the trade-offs and help you decide which model suits your needs.
Dental emergency – what do I do?
Call your insurer's emergency helpline or your network clinic directly
Describe the problem (pain, swelling, broken tooth, etc.)
Visit the nearest network dental clinic for immediate care
Keep all receipts and documentation for your claim
Contact us if you need help navigating the process
Most dental emergencies are treated at network clinics without upfront payment. If you're abroad, your policy may have limited emergency cover – check your terms.

Family-friendly dental plans
Cover the whole family with check-ups, cleanings and orthodontic options.
Coverage areas
Spain nationwide
Access to network dental clinics across all regions of Spain, including islands.
Emergency abroad
Some premium plans include limited emergency dental cover while travelling in Europe or worldwide.
Repatriation
Not typically needed for dental, but complex cases may involve coordination with your health insurance.
Coverage details and limits vary by insurer and plan. We'll confirm exactly what's included before you commit.
"If you expect to need crowns, implants or orthodontics, a premium plan usually pays for itself within 1-2 major treatments. We can help you calculate the best option."

Frequently asked questions about dental insurance
Is dental care included in public healthcare in Spain?
For adults, most dental care in Spain is private. The public system may cover very basic or emergency treatments, but routine check-ups, fillings, crowns and other standard work are usually not covered. That's why many expats choose a separate dental insurance plan.
What does dental insurance in Spain normally cover?
It depends on the plan, but most dental insurance includes check-ups, cleanings, X-rays and a good portion of common treatments like fillings, extractions and root canals. More advanced work such as crowns, bridges or implants may be partially covered or available with higher-level plans.
How much does dental insurance cost in Spain?
Basic network plans start from €5-15/month per person. More comprehensive plans with reimbursement options cost €15-40/month. Family packages often offer discounts – a family of 4 might pay €30-60/month total instead of 4 individual premiums.
Does dental insurance cover implants and crowns?
Most plans offer implants and crowns at discounted prices (30-50% off) rather than full coverage. Without insurance: €1,000-2,500 per implant; with insurance: typically €400-1,200. Expect waiting periods of 6-12 months for implant coverage.
Are braces (orthodontics) covered?
Many plans offer orthodontic coverage at discounted rates (40-60% off). Some comprehensive plans include a fixed annual allowance (€500-1,500). There's usually a 6-12 month waiting period. DKV, Asisa, and Mapfre typically offer strong orthodontic coverage.
Can I get dental insurance if I already need treatment?
You can usually get a policy, but pre-existing conditions (teeth already needing treatment when you join) are typically excluded. Some plans may cover pre-existing conditions after 12-24 months. It's important to tell us if your dentist has already suggested specific treatments.
Is there a waiting period for dental insurance?
Basic services usually have no waiting period – check-ups, cleanings, X-rays start immediately. Major treatments like implants, orthodontics, and complex surgery often have 3-12 month waiting periods depending on the insurer.
Can I use my own dentist, or do I have to stay in a network?
Most affordable plans require using network dentists for best prices. Reimbursement plans let you choose any dentist but typically cost more and may only cover 70-90% of costs. Ask specifically about English-speaking dentists in your area.
Which dental insurers are best for expats in Spain?
For basic coverage, Sanitas and Adeslas offer good value network plans. For comprehensive care including orthodontics, consider DKV or Asisa. All have English support. We recommend comparing 3-4 options with a licensed broker.
Should I get standalone dental or add it to health insurance?
Bundling with health insurance is often 10-20% cheaper. However, standalone dental plans may offer better coverage or networks. Compare both options for your specific situation – we can help you find the best value.
