Maya Kallio & Marco Elsinger
Maya Kallio & Marco ElsingerLicensed Insurance Agents · DGSFP

A complete 2026 guide to getting insurance in Spain with English-speaking support: what cover expats really need, how the Spanish system works, and how ExpatInsurances.es helps — as a licensed insurance agency since 2012, now becoming a fully independent broker.

Quick Summary

We've served expats as a DGSFP insurance agency since 2012, and are now becoming a fully independent broker — able to compare multiple insurers impartially from later in 2026.

Why Get English-Speaking Insurance Help in Spain in 2026?

Spain has a strong insurance market, but most information, call centres and policy documents are still in Spanish. For expats, that creates three problems: you're never 100% sure what is and isn't covered, you don't know if the offer you have is actually good value, and you may miss important conditions that affect visas or claims.

Expat-Focused

Cover tailored to visas, non-resident status, and international families

At ExpatInsurances.es, we've focused on expats living, working and retiring in Spain since 2012. Across our 15+ years serving the international community here, we've helped many thousands of expats get set up with the right cover.

From Insurance Agent to Independent Broker

Here's where we are, honestly. Since 2012 we've operated as a licensed DGSFP insurance agency working with Caser — which has let us give expats expert, English-speaking guidance on their cover.

Over the last few years, to give our clients even better service, we decided to take the bigger step and become a fully independent broker (correduría). After nearly 14 years, we've applied for the broker licence, which is being granted in September 2026. Once the official registration is finalised — a short process of a month or two after that — we'll be able to compare policies across multiple insurers impartially and recommend the best option for each client, not just one company's range.

What this means for you: today, expert Caser cover with English-speaking support and all the paperwork handled. From later in 2026, the same team, now working as an impartial broker across the market.

How Getting Insurance Through Us Works

Many expats are used to buying insurance directly from a website or bank. In Spain, going through a licensed intermediary is often easier and safer, especially if you're new to the system.

We Work for You

Our job is to understand your needs and find the right cover for your situation — and, as we move to broker status, to compare it across insurers.

No Extra Cost

You don't pay extra for our advice – our commission is paid by the insurer, not by you.

Handle Paperwork

We help with policy documents in Spanish and English, official visa certificates, and proof for banks or landlords.

When Should You Get in Touch?

You should talk to us before:

Applying for a non-lucrative visa, digital nomad visa, student visa or family reunification
Buying or renting a property in Spain and needing home or landlord insurance
Registering your car on Spanish plates or bringing a vehicle from abroad
Opening a business or registering as an autónomo
Taking out life insurance for a new mortgage or family protection
Already have policies but want to improve coverage or price
Need support with a claim or policy renewal

How It Works – Step by Step

1

Contact an Insurance Expert

Reach us via call, WhatsApp or email and tell us where you live (or will live) in Spain, what cover you need, your visa type, and any special requirements.

2

We Analyse Your Situation

We'll clarify what is mandatory, what is recommended and what is optional. We check if you need visa-compliant insurance or standard cover, and identify the best fit for your profile.

3

We Find the Right Policy

You receive a clear summary showing monthly or annual prices, what is covered and excluded, waiting periods, and whether a policy meets residency/visa requirements.

4

You Choose – We Handle the Paperwork

Once you choose an option, we complete the application and documentation. For health insurance, we arrange the official certificate needed for consulates and visa applications.

5

Ongoing Support & Claims Help

After the policy starts, you can contact us for policy questions, adding family members, changing address, help with claims and renewals, or guidance if your situation changes.

Frequently asked questions

Still have questions? Check these answers or get in touch.

Is my European Health Insurance Card enough?

No – EHIC is meant for short stays and emergencies, not for long-term residency. Most expats still need private medical insurance for visa applications and comprehensive healthcare coverage.

Are you a broker or an agent?

We've been a licensed DGSFP insurance agency since 2012, working with Caser. We're now becoming a fully independent broker (correduría): our broker licence is being granted in September 2026, and after a short registration process we'll be able to compare policies across multiple insurers impartially. Today that means expert Caser cover with English-speaking support; from later in 2026, impartial multi-insurer comparison.

Can I have one contact for all my insurance in Spain?

Yes. Many clients prefer one English-speaking contact for health, car, home, life and business insurance. This simplifies communication and ensures all your policies work together properly.

Do I pay extra to use us?

No. Our commission is paid by the insurer, not by you. You get the guidance, the paperwork handled and English-speaking support at no additional cost, and we explain coverage details clearly so you know exactly what you're buying.
